The CNY treat your family will actually finish.

My mum makes these chewy, buttery little treats by hand in Singapore. Most people buy them to give away for CNY — then end up keeping a jar for themselves.

Small treat. Made with care.

They're soft, chewy and very buttery — hard to stop at one. Mum still makes them by hand, in small batches, with premium ingredients. No shortcuts, just the way she's always made them.

And no, it's not a baked good — just butter, biscuits and marshmallows, plus a few things Mum still won't tell me.

How this started

It started with a smell from Mum's kitchen.

In 2017 I came home and the whole house smelled of butter. I followed it to the kitchen — Mum had just made something new, and I got the first piece.

I shared some with friends and they kept asking for more. When I asked Mum what was in it, she just said butter, biscuits, marshmallows — and "other stuff". So I named it after the two I did know: Butter + Marshmallows = ButterMellows. Susan's, for Mum.

Now families order over 200 jars every CNY, some as early as November. Mum can only make so many, so once they're gone, they're gone.

— Still just Mum making them, one batch at a time.

This is Mama Susan · 王素芳

Mum was never a baker. She just loves feeding people, and she's always been good at it.

She used to be a childcare teacher, then worked in retail. She retired in 2017 — the same year all this started.

We were in the papers once, too. Lianhe Zaobao wrote about us in December 2022 — “限量手作小方酥”.
